Manic Monday Mule
So to begin I must confess that I distribute all three of these products which is why I have these lovely samples hanging around my house. With that said I can honestly say that if you haven’t tried the 21 seeds line of tequilas then you are missing out. The owner of this company presented these to us when they came into our portfolio last year and I was blown away. I remember looking at them and thinking: they are going to make so much money. I should know because I am their target market and this is exactly what I want to drink.
21 seeds was born out of an unfortunate turn of events for owner Kat when her nightly glass of wine started causing some health issues and she was told to stop drinking fermented drinks entirely. A friend turned her to tequila but it felt so strong and alcoholic that it wasn’t hitting the spot. She played around with infusing it with citrus and spices and it became a hit among her circle. She tapped her sister and a friend and they took her hunch to Mexico and found a woman owned and operated distillery and made her infused tequila a reality. Two sisters, one friend, all natural 100% agave tequila: 21 seeds.
They have three flavors: Valencia Orange, Grapefruit Hibiscus & Cucumber Jalapeno. The flavors are so strong but lack that artificial flavor that often time ruins flavored products. They make great simple cocktails that you don’t have to fuss over but will impress your guests every time. However last monday it was a wave of second wave Covid anxiety that had me craving a cocktail and one of these lifted my lonely happy hour yearning spirits. These are made to complement your favorite soda water, a bit of citrus and a touch of something sweet if you need it. Being tequila they are low calorie so most drinks with the above ingredient combo only run about 100-150 calories. If you love agave give them a try… you’ll thank me later.
Manic Monday Mule
1.5 oz of 21 seeds cucumber jalapeno tequila
4 drops of hopped grapefruit bitters
Top with Ginger Beer
Fill glass with ice. Add Tequila. Add bitters. Top with Ginger Beer. Give a vigorous stir. Add a lime squeeze if you have it (I didn’t have one otherwise I would’ve).
Variations:
Muddling sliced cucumber and jalapeno with any tequila and it will infuse the flavor faster.
Ginger ale, grapefruit soda, even sprite in place of ginger beer will be sweeter but delicious.
No bitters? You could add a dash of lime or grapefruit juice to provide the acid and bitter flavor.
